You’ve got two options for getting a ScotRail Smartcard:
If you’re 16 or over: Apply online in minutes.
If you’re under 16: Download and complete the paper application form.
When you apply, you can choose between a photo Smartcard or a non-photo Smartcard:
Photo Smartcard: Ideal if you use Season Tickets, single/return tickets, Flexipass, any SPT Subway ticket, or you want add-ons like Club 50 membership, the Highland Railcard or an Under 25 Advance product.
Non-photo Smartcard: Best if you only buy single, return or Flexipass tickets, or use SPT Pay As You Go credit.
Your Smartcard should arrive within five working days.
Do I need to pay for a ScotRail Smartcard?
Nope. Your first Smartcard is completely free.
A replacement may come with a fee, depending on the situation.
